| I’m Scott, a husband, father of two, and very proud grandfather to six wonderful grandchildren. My journey into Country Music wasn’t something I planned, I kind of stumbled into it. No pun intended. In 2002, I had a life changing accident. During my rehab, I came across The Range on Foxtel, which later became the Country Music Channel (CMC). I would definitely not have called myself a Country Music fan, but Country Music was different, it had changed, there were great melodies, with lyrics that evoked emotion and told stories, I could really connect with. That’s when my love for Country Music began. Fast forward to 2012, when a community radio station started broadcasting in my hometown. I heard they were looking for volunteer DJ’s. A close friend suggested, I should give it a try. I decided to do a Country Music show, I had previously purchased a few country cd's, I contacted the committee. A couple of weeks later, it was given the green light. Before I knew it, I was behind the microphone, very nervous but excited to see how it would go! Setting up the studio wasn’t exactly easy! With a few creative adjustments, bricks under the desk, a walking-stick rubber over an important dial to use with the side of my hand all worked well, until we suddenly realised. I could not use a conventional mouse, Bruce a committee member suggested we try a rollerball mouse, which became the perfect solution. All these adjustments coupled with some very patient teaching by Roz, our amazing Station Manager, I was soon hosting my very own shows. From July 2012 until November 2023, I hosted over 900 shows at Tyga FM, two shows a week for seven years, then one a week for the next four. There were plenty of cold nights while making the five-kilometre round trip in my battery-powered wheelchair, sometimes rain and temperatures below three degrees in Tasmania, but it was all worth it. I enjoyed every minute of sharing great Country Music with listeners. A lot of Thanks’ goes to my Support Workers, who transferred me from the bed to the wheelchair, packed me up, met me at the station, helped me set up, were at my home when I returned, it felt like I had my very own formula one pit crew. A wonderful group of ladies. When my health eventually made it too hard to travel to the station, I very reluctantly had to give up hosting live radio. That’s when I discovered internet radio and Great Country Tracks was born, which is now being broadcast Australia wide, anywhere you can get a phone reception. | |
